Hi Abi, welcome to the Clunk universe.
Hello, Thank you I feel very welcomed
Where are you based? When did you first pick up the guitar? Do you play any other instruments? Any others you fancy having a go at?
I’m based in Warrington I got my first guitar for Christmas 2017, so I’ve been playing for about 3 years, I would love to be able to play the drums but my coordination is all over the place, but one day I will get there.
What were the first songs that you remember hearing? Maybe something on the radio, records that your family played?
The first song I ever heard was Without Me Eminem, it was released the year I was born and there’s old tape recordings of me bouncing around in a door jumper , and it’s been my anthem ever since.
What made you start writing songs? Were you inspired by other singer/songwriters?
My dad writes poetry and has done for a very long time, he used to write poems to cheer me up or to apologise if we’d argued, and it inspired me to write them too because it gave us both something to work for. I also love songs from Blur, IDLES & Fontaines D.C., I think they are lyrical geniuses
The new single ‘Polaroids and Violence’ is out now. Can you tell us a bit about the song.
Polaroids and Violence is 2 songs in one, a story of my friend struggling in a relationship and me being angry at myself for something, but as I was writing it, I changed my frame of mind and it quickly became a song that was about messing up but something going in your favour. Good Karma.
Have you plans for further releases during 2020? Perhaps a tour when we can all get out again?
I’d love to get back to gigging when we’re all ungrounded, I know I have a few gigs towards the end of the year with The Verdict & Krooked Tongue, as for releases, I’ll have to let you know on that one.
Here at Clunk HQ this week we have been listening to Tropical Fuck Storm, Marblmoon, Sorry, Dana Gavanski, Big Thief and PINS. What’s been on your turntable/playlist? Anything you think we should be checking out?
There are loads of amazing bands out there right now. I’ve had The Kairos from liverpool on repeat for weeks and I’m a big fan of girl in red from Norway, I think her song writing abilities are incredible
Many thanks for taking the time for Clunk. See you out there sometime, hopefully in the not-too-distant future.
