Freya Beer chooses her Top Ten Albums To Discover/Revisit. Why not check one or two out?

1: The Mamas and The Papas – The Papas and The Mamas

This album embraces the Californian sunshine within its track listing. Recommended tracks “Safe in my Garden” and “Twelve Thirty”

2: Brigitte Bardot – Bubblegum

A complication album of Brigitte Bardot’s back catalogue featuring her most notable duets with Serge Gainsbourg.

A light listening suitable for any kind of day. Recommended tracks “Bonnie and Clyde” and “Moi je joue”

3: Brian Wilson – I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times

I’m instantly drawn to any music by Brian Wilson. I’ve always admired his songwriting and production skills especially in the Beach Boys. Recommended tracks “Love and Mercy” and “Do it Again”.

4: Bat For Lashes – The Bride

“The Bride” is an album full of imagery and sonically very cinematic. This album definitely draws influence from any Kubrick sci-fi film and David Lynch horror. Recommended tracks “Sunday Love” and “If I Knew”

5: Vanessa Paradis – Les Sources

A beautiful album by Vanessa Paradis. It captures an earthly feeling throughout the track listing which is very calming to listen to. Recommended tracks “Ces mots simples” and “La plage”

6: Benjamin Clementine – I Tell A Fly

Another laid back listening, I love reading Benjamin’s lyrics as they have a lot of imagery within them. I also love his music from his band The Clementines, with whom he sings with his wife, Flo Morrissey. Recommended tracks “Jupiter” and “God Save the Jungle”.

7: Michael Kiwanuka – Love & Hate

“Cold Little Heart” was the first song I heard from Michael Kiwanuka, it’s a beautifully put together song and overall is a very soulful album. Recommended tracks “Cold Little Heart” and “One More Night”

8: The Beach Boys – Sunflower

A “sunshine” album which takes you to that happy place with mesmerising harmonies. Recommended tracks “Forever” and “Tears in the Morning”

9: Roxy Music – For Your Pleasure

A piece of artwork as per all Roxy music albums. Particularly this album takes you to a ceremonial place which leaves you in a trance. Recommended tracks “In Every Dream Home a Heartache” and “Strictly Confidential”.

10: Queen – Queen II

From being brought up on Queen, this album by far is my go-to. Recommended tracks “White Queen (As it Began)”, “Ogre Battle” and “The March of the Black Queen”.
