Hello Volcanic Brass and welcome to the Clunk universe
Please tell us who does what in Volcanic Brass and where you are based.
Volcanic Brass is all me (Scott from Warrington) and I collaborate with other artists, so on this occasion it’s rapper EvilA (also from Warrington). I recorded all of the trumpets, guitars, percussion etc in my studio and sent it to EvilA to write lyrics and record his bit. I then mixed and produced it. I feel like I’m taking all the credit really when EvilA has really made this track what it is!!
Volcanic Brass is an interesting name. How did it come about and did you have any other names in the hat.
I wanted to have a play on words with Brass. It was this or Brassic Park. I think that was taken!
Love the sound of ‘Consoled Forts’. Could you tell us about it’s development.
Thanks! It started as a funk project. I had this trumpet riff and wanted to build something around it. I just had fun with it and made quick decisions, as I had just spent a month working and obsessing on a different track for another project. In a way I was just letting off some steam. I sent it to my brother just because I thought he would like it, and we both said it needed a rapper! EvilA was recommended to me by our local music bloggers WAM (Warringtonmusic.co.uk)
Are there plans for further releases in the coming months. Maybe an album next year?
There is another track almost complete with EvilA. I’m just waiting on a new take from him. Hopefully he will read this and send it over!! Volcanic Brass also just worked on a John Mayer cover with a very talented musician called Seb Kedziora. That’s on youtube if you want to check it out! Also just recorded some brass parts for a soft rock track for a band called The Ambersons. On top of that we just got asked to collaborate on another instrumental funk project, so it’s all go, and we don’t just do hiphop!
I’ve been reading about rock star riders. From Marilyn Manson demanding Danone Yoghurt and Gummy Bears to Pharrell Williams and 26 others with him being entertained by belly dancers whilst getting through 20 crates of vodka, 15 magnums of champers and a further 20 crates of Bacardi! Of course, I don’t if this is true. Anyway, what would you have on your rider when you hit that level of madness?
Just some beer thanks!
Of course, once you reach that level of fame and madness you will be able to choose any band/artist in the world to be the support. Who would you choose and where would you want to play, money no object!?
Don’t know where to start with this one! I’m still not sure how to define us or where we fit in into the whole music world at the moment but if I could support anybody it would be Arctic Monkeys. And in Warrington of course.
If we were to come to your neck of the woods for a weekend where would you take us? You are the EntertainmentsCommittee!
Acoustic Cafe. Always great unsigned artists on there, good beer and cocktails and friendly people!
Could you recommend any bands/artists that we ought to be giving a listen?
The Ambersons. I’ve just recorded some trumpet for their upcoming releases and they are a quality band!
Many thanks for taking the time for Clunk. Don’t forgot to add Carlisle to your tour, hopefully in the next few months.
Thanks so much!
